Environmental Justice: An Introduction for Retail
Stacey Halliday and Hilary Jacobs of Beveridge & Diamond will provide an overview of the emerging environmental justice landscape and evaluate risks and opportunities for retailers. Attendees will then hear from Donnel Baird from BlocPower, a Brooklyn-based energy technology startup rapidly greening American cities. They will share a variety of paths for retail companies committed to (or, challenged when) addressing environmental justice issues in their operations, either by focusing on the communities in which they serve, the customer, employees or suppliers.

Hilary defends and provides regulatory counseling to clients across industrial sectors in contract, environmental, toxic tort, and class action litigation. She regularly speaks and writes on environmental justice issues, including recently co-authoring “A Biden-Harris Take on Environmental Justice: What to Expect” and presenting a Washington Legal Foundation webinar, “Environmental Justice: What to Expect as the Movement Is Primed for its Moment in 2021.” While in law school, Hilary received the Community Scholar Prize for her work with the University of Maryland’s Environmental Law Clinic to assist a Baltimore community prevent an environmentally harmful development in their neighborhood. As a part of her work at the Clinic, Hilary also co-authored a report documenting environmental justice issues in the state of Maryland.

Stacey advises clients on environmental compliance due diligence, environmental enforcement, corporate social responsibility, nonfinancial reporting, and environmental justice. After serving as a Principal at Beveridge & Diamond, Stacey founded Global Environmental Solutions Consulting, LLC in August 2019, and works closely with the firm as an independent environmental consultant. She regularly works with large industrial companies to develop comprehensive, company-wide environmental justice policies, programs, and implementation frameworks. Stacey writes and speaks on behalf of the firm regarding corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and environmental justice issues.
